Customized approach for your California Intrastate Move
Our customized approach to intrastate moving allows us provide a high-quality & affordable move within the limits of your budget. Safeway Moving relocation experts will lay out a plan that meets all of your requirements, without you paying for services you may not need. To get you started, a relocation expert works with you to determine which moving services you require. Our friendly & experienced team will also help you decide if you will need additional services such as storage or automobile transportation. Once the Relocation Expert determines exactly what services are needed, they provide an estimate for the move. We also schedule an in person estimate or Zoom estimate over the phone depending on the location. All requested services are outlined in the estimate, from packing to unpacking, to disassembly and reassembly. The moving quote will only cover the services that you have decided on.

Technically speaking, an intrastate move is any move that begins and ends in the same state. However, in the moving industry, the term “intrastate” is applied to moves beginning and ending in the same state beyond 50 miles. It involves moving your household belongings, furniture, and personal items from one location to another, but the move stays entirely within California’s state lines. In other words, you are moving from one city or county to another city or county within California.

California Long-Distance Moves FAQs:
How much does it cost to move from San Francisco to LA or Orange County ?
The average cost of a residential move from San Francisco to Los Angeles or OC is between $1,500 – $5,000. The exact price of your move will depend on a number of factors including the exact distance you are moving, the number of items being moved, additional packing supplies, and additional services such as packing and unpacking. The best way to get an accurate quote is by calling us at our office to schedule an estimate.
What’s the difference between an Online Quote and an In-Home Estimate?
Usually the difference is accuracy. An online quote relies on you, the customer, to put everything you own into an inventory form and your quote is based on that. An In Home Estimate is performed by a Relocation Expert at Safeway Moving & Storage, who is trained, plus has years of experience, knowing how much room your items will take on a truck, how many movers is best to have do the job based not only on your items and home layout, but also on time of year and how far away the truck will need to park!
What is the difference between a binding & non-binding estimate ?
A binding estimate means that the price quoted in an estimate is the amount you pay—even if there ends up being unforeseen extra costs. A non-binding estimate means that the price you pay will probably end up being different than the estimated price movers tell you. Non-binding estimates are the most common type of estimates when moving long distance or across state lines.
Non-binding estimates must be in writing and clearly describe the shipment and all services provided. Any time a mover provides such an estimate, the amount of the charges estimated must be on the order for service and bill of lading related to your shipment. We can bind your estimate also. But we prefer not to and that’s because it’s in BOTH our best interests not to. Moving companies work off of Non- Binding Estimates for a very good reason- if the job (your move) is completed sooner than anticipated, you pay less!
What factors affect moving costs :
Distance – Irvine to San Francisco driving distance is 426 miles. the longer the distance the higher the fees
Size of your move – moving costs are determine by overall weight of items or volume in cubic feet
Unique, valuable, heavy or bulky items – moving heavy items like a piano or heavy machinery will incur extra charges
Packing and unloading services – full packing is the most expensive service. Self-service is the cheapest
Packing supplies & materials – you need to factor the cost of moving supplies. Save money by getting used boxes.
Moving Date – summer rates are higher and moving on weekends. Save by moving middle of the week or off season
Storage Services – if your new home does not have enough space, you may have to use storage before, during, & after the move
Insurance Coverage – you can choose between release value protection or Full-Value Protection. Released Value Protection is the most economical option because it doesn’t cost anything. It is offered by movers at no additional charge. This means that you will be reimbursed for everything from your paperclips to family heirlooms at up to 60 cents per pound.
Am I protected against loss or damage while my goods are in transit?
Yes, but how much protection you have and its cost to you depends upon the valuation coverage you selected. This can be one of the most confusing aspects to moving but it is important that you understand what is being provided to you. The valuation option you choose determines the basis upon which any claim will be adjusted and the maximum liability of the carrier. The liability of a carrier for loss or damage is based upon the carrier’s tariffs, as well as federal laws and regulations that have certain limitations and exclusions.
Valuation is not insurance. This is important to understand. It is the liability of the moving company. Check with the provider of your homeowner’s insurance to find out if you are covered for moving. If you have a contents insurance policy that includes removals then that covers accidental loss or damage to your contents while they’re being moved by a professional moving company to your new home. But it’s best to get Full Value Protection from the moving company for peace of mind.
How soon should I start packing to move ?
If possible, start planning your packing strategy six weeks before your move. At first, you’ll need to do the prep work, like decluttering, cleaning, and purchasing moving and packing supplies. Then, the last two to three weeks can be used for packing

This is the best part, when I got to my new house, not only had they unloaded everything, they placed my furniture in each room as if I already lived there. Tv was on TV cabinet facing my couch. Chairs around dining room table AND my clothes were hanging in my closets!
I have never ever seen anything like it. It was like an interior decorator told them where to arrange things.
Mike was the guy in charge of the crew and he made the experience amazing. Yes, I just called a moving experience amazing. Mike, you are fantastic. What a pro!
Thanks!!
As a side note, if you are doing an interstate move, be sure to first read through the BBB online pamphlet on avoiding moving scams, particularly the introduction, as our scam went pretty much exactly how they describe:
bbb.org/content/dam/0734…
For some reason this company doesn't have any reviews on the BBB website - happy customers should leave a review there too as that is often the most reliable source!
I have heard the horror stories of moving so I prepared and found Safeway movers. We called a few different companies and Safeway was by far the best over the phone, most detailed, and helped my family prepare more than any other group.
Gameday: The team shows up on time, greets us and each other, did a brief walk through, and got right to work. You can see the team is friendly with each other and works great together. They have professional clean trucks they obviously take care of. They have an efficient system which saved us time and money. Everything was organized and efficient. They care for my belongings and treated us with respect.
At the new home they put the boxed and furniture in the correct room, put together correctly, and nothing was broken. We did the entire move in one day. The entire experience was fantastic. A big thank you to the entire team from the owner Mike to the lead Scott, and the rest of the guys Mike, Cody, Steve and I think another Mike.
They worked efficiently and made it a good experience. Definitely worth the higher hourly rate.
Thanks to Mike M, Mike R, Cody P and Cody C.
